Iron Caddy Workshop

Yesterday I had the privilege of facilitating a workshop with 5 of the gals from our guild.  We used a local high school and the best part of the room we use is that it is set up as a Home Economics classroom.  That is probably an old term that not too many people use today.  They always come up with some new fangled word to use.  All along the wall are electrical receptors so you are not cramped together.

Everyone had there own spot to quilt in and spread themselves out down the perimeter of the room.

We set the middle of the room up with 4 tables so that we could all work together and help each other out.  The biggest thing about this pattern is the marking of the sewing lines so that the caddy folds up correctly.

Everyone got their's finished except for a few buttons.

As it often happens, you finish a project and then decide that you don't

like the buttons that you have chosen.

I'm sure new buttons will be purchased in a few days.

Iron Caddy Workshop

Today I taught a workshop on making a Caddy to carry your iron in and also use it as an ironing surface.  It needs special fabric for the ironing surface and we used an ironing board fabric that looks like it is Teflon coated.  There were 7 ladies in the class and everyone completed their project except that a few of the ladies forgot their buttons or didn't like what they had so these have to be added at home.

Everyone had such pretty fabrics.

This pattern is from Sister's Common Thread called Caddy Pad.

I found this pattern when my sister Lynda and I were doing shop hopping in Southern Ontario and as soon as a few people saw my Caddy Pad they wanted to make one too.

The hardest part about making this pad is drawing the lines on the ironing board fabric so that it folds up the way it does.

They are so handy to have to take to a workshop or retreat when you can have your own iron right beside you and not have to wait in line to use an iron.

Some of the finished projects.  As you can see some of the ladies didn't have the buttons sewn on so we pinned the caddy's closed so they would know where the buttons were to be sewn.

A Homemade Christmas

Christmas is over and the new year will be here soon.  It was a topsy-turvy Christmas this year.  There were some very sad days before Christmas, my sister-in-law passed away very suddenly in Florida where she lives and my niece in Kenora had her house burn down and her 13 year old son was flown to Winnipeg with severe burns.  When these kinds of things happen at Christmas time it is impossible to be with the people who need you most.  So I sent lots of good wishes and prayers their way.

Now that Christmas is over and things are starting to get back to normal (I said starting) I can post all the gifts I made and gave.

children.  I made 8 placemats and 2

table runners.

Mug Rugs, Oven Mitts, and a Hot Pad for 

Lynda who loves anything rooster.

A couple of Mug Rugs for 2 young

ladies who came for Christmas dinner.

I also made lots of Kleenex holders.

All in all it turned out to be a very nice Christmas.  I had 11 people for dinner and was lucky this year that I was prepared and had made 12 new placemats.
