Now is the Time to Show Gifts I Made for Christmas

Since Christmas has come and gone I can now post more of the gifts that I made for family and friends.  Every year I have to wait until the gifts are opened before I can show more of my sewing.  This year was a mug rug Christmas.  I made so many that I lost count of them all.  I even made one for me but I forgot to take a picture of it.  I guess I will have to do that soon.

This is a cushion cover I made for Lynda using the Pineapple Log Cabin block.

The beige strips and the backing are all about post cards.  She is in a group called Post-crossing where you send post cards to other members of the group, so I thought this fabric would be a hit and it was.

Mug Rugs for Maria.

I used a pattern from Craftsy but changed it and put applique for the word Sew.

She collects miniature shoes so I added one to the second rug.

Mug Rugs for Joyce.

Joyce's home has many outdoor bird feeders with blue jays visiting so I made a blue bird with a bird house for her second rug.

These were given to my sister and her husband

in California.

More Mug Rugs for special people. 

My daughter has an orange cat and my

son and his girl friend have a black cat.

These are really cute coasters for the guys on my list.

Christmas Pure and Simple

I started this wall hanging in the summer but only finished it now because I hate panels.  I don't know why I buy them except that they make great quilted wall hangings. 

I had an old wall hanging with the nativity scene that I had for about 20 years and decided that it was time for a new one.  

I had it quilted by a local long arm quilter because I couldn't decide how I would do it let alone manage the size of it.

I left off the outer border because it would be too large for the wall it would go on.  I am happy with it even without the extra border.

Snow Days

My son asked me to make him a wall hanging and we came up with this one.  I started this one back in April and finally got it finished now.  One of his grandfathers was a railroader so possibly that was why he was attracted to this panel.

I had this one quilted by a long arm quilter and she quilted snow flakes on it.

It wasn't a Christmas gift but it was a good time to finally get it finished.

Making Christmas Gifts

I have been really busy making Christmas gifts but I can't post some of them because the people that they are made for, check my blog.  There are a few I can post and I will save the rest for after Christmas.

Christmas Tree Skirts

I made one of these for myself last Christmas and had lots of leftover fabric so I thought that maybe my children might like one as well.  I had started them and put them aside because there were other things to make and Christmas was a long way off.  I actually forgot about them.  I was going through my boxes of projects and came across them about a couple of months ago.  I decided that I should get going on them or I wouldn't get them finished for Christmas.

There are very few repeats of fabric in them.  The pattern is really interesting because there is no real angle to cut it is all done with measurements and a regular ruler.  You can find the PATTERN HERE.

I have made these before and they are so easy yet so attractive.

When I was in Southern Ontario last year I found this great strip of fabric to make some beer coasters.  The back is also neat because it is beer mugs.  I didn't quilt these because I tried and didn't like the result so I just put backing and batting and then sewed them right sides together, flipped them and top stitched around the edge.

Zig Zag and Mug Rugs

Another donation quilt is finished and ready to go.  I get emails from Fab quilts and they send me links to quilt tutorials.  I am using up scraps and I thought this was really an ideal pattern.  So cute, but it is one that has to go on a design wall to put it together.  You can find the pattern here.

Zig Zag Rainbow Quilt

I have been doing yoga for about 12 years now in order to stay limber and to get some stretching into my exercise routine.  I go to our local community center and have been fortunate to have the same yoga instructor.  When I saw this mug rug I knew that I had to make it for her.  I hope she likes it.  

It is hard to see the background fabric but it is 

sky fabric.

Some New Toys

On my last trip to Southern Ontario and visits to quilt shops I picked up a pattern called "Caddy Pad" it is from Sisters' Common Thread. It is an iron tote and ironing pad all in one.  It opens out into an ironing surface.  The Heat-Resistant Lining comes with the pattern.  I had a lot of fun making it and now have a neat way of carrying my iron when I go the a quilt bee or sewing meeting.

It is true quilters fabric with thread and needles on it,

and it says "A Passion for Patchwork".

I also tried my hand at making some new mug rugs.  The pattern is from the Winter Issue of Quilter's World.  They are called Cuppa Coasters.

I think they are nicer than the usual rectangular ones that are quite popular.

The rest of the mug rugs and Lanyard

I am finished with mug rugs for now.  I have made 10 of them for the local Quilter's Guild.  Now it is onto other things.

Pretty Blue Birds

I know it isn't the season for Christmas but I couldn't resist this fabric. 

My trees have lights.

My sister Lynda, my daughter Colleen and I are going to New York in March and I am starting to get ready for the trip.  I want a secure warm place for my camera so I thought of a lanyard around my neck but the ones I have are skinny and I thought they would pull on my neck so I came up with this.

Here it is around my neck but without the camera as I had to use it to take the picture.  My camera is a point and shoot so I took the idea for the lanyard from tutorials for a cover for a camera strap. 

I think that will be more comfortable then a thin stingy lanyard from the dollar store.  And more colourful.

More mug rugs

I seem to like making these little things lately.  I think it is the feeling of accomplishment that you get when you are finished something.  These are for the Guild.  I hope they like them.

Another Tablerunner and placemats

I finished another tablerunner and placemats today.  This one is really large measuring 20 x 58 inches.  To put it in perspective I put 3 placemats beside it so that you can see the full size of it.  I also went over the poinsettias with gold laminated thread.  They don't show up too much in the picture but the gold thread really makes them pop.

I have also been making mug rugs.  It is something I saw on a blog and thought that I would like to try it.  It was Pleasant Home .  They are really cute and fun to make.  I'm afraid that I copied hers because I needed the inspiration but next time I will try to come up with my own idea.  They are a nice extra Christmas gift or stocking stuffer.  Thanks Jodi.

I just have to put the binding onto my Cotton Theory Tablerunner and it will be finished.  Maria is coming over tomorrow and we should get them finished up then.
