Apple Avenue Quilts Block of the Month

I finished my Apple Avenue Quilts Block of the Month and it is ready to be posted.  I should have taken better care of how I made the blocks each month and what fabrics and colours I used because when it was finished I didn't like the way it looked when I arranged it by the months.  Each block represents a month of the year so I scattered the blocks and liked the layout better.

On the upper left corner is January depicted by a snowflake and February is the heart block but I think they look better separated with the green shamrocks for March in the middle.

April starts the next row then June in the middle and then pink tulips for May.

On the lower right is the July block and it should be an American flag, but since I am a Canadian I put a red maple leaf on a white background waving in a blue sky as the star points and background.
It measures 52 x 66.  One down and 8 to go.

Autumn Breezes

I have been following a blog called Apple Avenue Quilts for over a year now and she always post really nice patterns for the making.  I did the block of the month and am just now putting the final border on it so I will will post pictures when it is finished.

In October last year the blog editor Jill, posted a wall hanging that was paper-pieced and I just fell in love with it.  I had learned a new way to paper-piece from Amy Butler on the Craftsy BOM website so I thought I would tackle this project.  I picked up the fabric at a small quilt shop in Beaver Bay Minnesota.

Autumn Breezes.
I am quite proud of it.  All the quilting is done
in the ditch because I thought something
else would take away from the  pattern.
I then did some serpentine stitches down the 4 sides.

October Blocks of the Month

I have been alone since last Thursday October the 4th (YKW and number one son have gone moose hunting) so I have spent my time doing my October BOM's since I also want to get back to finishing up my Christmas gifts.  So after a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at Hawkeye Lake at the camp of a friend and her family, I was able to finish the last of them.

Craftsy BOM this month was paper piecing and I have been dreading making this block.  Amy Gibson did a wonderful job on her video showing a different way of paper piecing and so much easier than the method that I was taught.  I just love her method.  It went together so fast I will certainly use this method again.

I still have to finish My Morning Glory Design Block and my Irish Quilt blocks.  The blocks for the Irish Quilt are so slow in coming that I am going to use some of my own ideas to finish it up.

September Blocks

I am busy doing Christmas projects which I will post after Christmas and I have finished most of my September blocks.

This door hanging I made is actually
called O Canada but I thought
autumn leaves would look really
nice on it too.

All the Blocks of this quilt can be found here.
The gal that has this blog is a little behind so
I decided to just continue on my own.
She has some nice ideas for blocks
and I want to complete this quilt
with her blocks.

This block of the month uses four colours
in some of the blocks, but this one
only uses three plus the background.

Apple Avenue September
and we have 4 apples.

I like this one with the
sunflower and the crow.

Getting Caught Up

I was so far behind on my BOM's that I spent the last 2 days doing nothing but blocks.  YKW was up at the cabin and I was alone at home with outside temperatures too hot to enjoy.  So what does one do under these circumstances?   Well you sew, if you are me.  The temperatures the past few days were in the 30C range with humidex around 37C.  Far too hot to be out and about.

This block took me a long time to do because
of the small pieces all around
the outside edge.

July Block's of the Month

Three BOM's for July are finished.

Traditional Dresden Plate Block

Modern Dresden Wheel Block
These are both from Craftsy

In Color Order July Block

Apple Avenue July Block
The center block was suppose to be an American flag
but since I live in Canada I had to change it a
Maple Leaf.
The Canadian flag has a red maple leaf in the center
with 2 red bars on the sides.
I thought the pale blue looked like the flag was waving in the sky.

Tomorrow Is A New Month

Tomorrow is a new month with new blocks to be downloaded and sewn so I have been busy finishing up this months blocks.  Some of my blocks come out at different times of the month or week so it seems I always have new ones to make.

This is June's block from Apple Avenue.
4 cute lady bugs

These blocks come out on the 25th of the month
so I am not behind on this one.

June Block from Joined at the Hip.
I am doing mine in just 2 colours

My daffodils don't look like the ones on the website.
I just couldn't put green leaves where the
pink petals should be.

Getting Caught up on my Block of the Months

I don't like having UFO's so when I got back from Washington I had to get going on all my BOM's for May.  Since I am doing 8 there was a lot of catching up to do.  I hadn't finished April Craftsy blocks since there were a lot of Hexagons to make.  That one is finished and I still have May to do.
