Quilt Therapy Tuesday

Tuesday is now Therapy day and we had a lot to share.  There 4 of us have been doing a lot of quilting lately and we haven't been able to get together and we like to have a show and tell session before we start for the day.

Joyce finished her placemats - 8 of them.

Beautiful wine fabric.

These placemats have no binding,

they are quilted on the batting

then the backing is sewn on

and flipped over to the right side.

 

This gorgeous fabric was purchased on her

trip to Southern Ontario.

She likes the above pattern so much that

she is now making 8 more placemats.

Pierina finished her mystery quilt bag.

It is big enough to carry all her supplies

for out Tuesday quilting group get together.

She has the top completed and now will be

doing the quilting.

 

We had a lot of fun putting the keyboard

border together for the Max & Whiskers

quilt that Maria is now making.

 

I am also making more placemats. out of this

cute cat fabric that Colleen picked out when

we were in Duluth a few weeks ago.

Lots of finishes in October, getting ready for November

I have been waiting too long for the blocks to finish my Ireland Quilt so I decided to do my own thing for a few of the blocks.  I will wait a little while longer to see what the last blocks look like and if they don't get posted soon then I will do another one to finish that quilt.

I was able to finish the last 3 of the Morning Glory Designs BOM and now there are 20 completed blocks.

I also made a Casserole Carrier.  I thought I might make a few for Christmas gifts so I made one for myself to try the pattern out.  I changed the pattern by putting binding around the pieces instead of flipping them inside out and used webbing for the handles instead of fabric.

I also made 4 placemats for a friend that I do yoga with twice a week.

I used a pattern from Atkinson Designs book I have.

She wanted burgundy and black so I combined

the burgundy with beige and used black

for the backing and binding.

My Third Teddy Bear Quilt and Halloween Tablerunner

I am all set for the November Guild meeting.  My third teddy bear quilt is finished and I am really happy with it.  I found this pattern in a magazine and just had to try it.

I used the colours in the quilt 

for the binding.

All wrapped up.

This table runner is a McCall's Quilting Web Bonus.  I made it a little wider by not trimming it so close to the center square.

I haven't posted the alphabet blocks for a while so I thought I would post 4 together.  These have been really fun to do and it keeps me thinking about what Lyn is going to come up with for each letter.

I have been trying to co-ordinate the letter and what it stands for

when I have been doing these blocks. 

The Letter comes one week and it's mate

the next week.

October Blocks of the Month

I have been alone since last Thursday October the 4th (YKW and number one son have gone moose hunting) so I have spent my time doing my October BOM's since I also want to get back to finishing up my Christmas gifts.  So after a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at Hawkeye Lake at the camp of a friend and her family, I was able to finish the last of them.

Craftsy BOM this month was paper piecing and I have been dreading making this block.  Amy Gibson did a wonderful job on her video showing a different way of paper piecing and so much easier than the method that I was taught.  I just love her method.  It went together so fast I will certainly use this method again.

My September Blocks Are Finished

I finally finished my Craftsy Block of the Month for September.  I had never done a drunkard's path block so it was nice to learn something new.  I made a different block for my first one because instead of cutting the templates I bought Elisa's templates and they were the wrong size.  I learned a lot from using them though.  I also watched her video which was a lot of help using these templates.  I needed the squares to finish at 3 inches and when I used the templates they finished at 3 1/2 inches so in order to make a 12 1/2 inch block I had to put a border around what I made.

Our Guild has a wonderful program every month.  Some very talented people put together a very interesting program at our September guild meeting.  First we had a Phys Ed teacher talk to us about keeping fit and do some exercises when we are quilting.  Many of us tend to hunch ourselves over and tense up when we are quilting and she tried to help us loosen up and relax.

Next the committee showed us some strippers.  They spent the weekend making strip sets of all the colours of the rainbow.  The strip sets were 14 1/2 inches by 68 inches.  They asked us to make a red strip set for this month.  I don't have enough reds to do that, so I recruited a few friends to make 14 1/2 inch squares in red and we will sew them together to make our strip.

Teddy Bear Quilts

Our guild makes quilts for teddy bears that are given to children at Christmas time.  This year I have started to make mine now so that I am not rushed when November comes.  I have 2 finished.

My first Teddy Bear Quilt.

It is 22 x 28.

Big enough for the child to use

or wrap a doll or teddy bear in.

Number 2 Quilt.

Both quilts are basically the same

but the borders and the backing

are different.

My Sons birthday is in a few weeks, and I saw this panel and couldn't resist buying it for him.

Wild in the Wilderness.

This is a complete panel and

gives you the impression 

that you are looking through

a window at the moose.

Quilt Therapy now moved to Tuesday

Quilt Therapy Thursday has been moved to Tuesday from now on.  There were a few conflicts on Thursdays so Tuesday seemed to be a better day.

Joyce is cutting some lovely fabric with wine glasses

and grapes that will become

placemats.

Maria is working with blueberries.  

She is also making some placemats.

Pierina has some beautiful mauve's and blues.

She is making a bag to carry her

quilting supplies in.

I am working on my third Teddy Bear quilt.

A small quilt for a child that will have

a Teddy Bear wrapped in it.

I am busy doing Christmas projects which I will post after Christmas and I have finished most of my September blocks. 

This door hanging I made is actually

called O Canada but I thought

autumn leaves would look really

nice on it too.

A Busy Weekend, lots Accomplished

We were at the cabin on the weekend, so it meant some sewing and some work done.  We got 2 loads of wood so that had to be stacked and also the wood shed had to be tidied up.

YKW did a good job on the wood shed.

the 2 new loads of wood.

The guys went to sight in their guns for hunting season so I did a bit of sewing.  I managed to make 8 placemats and 2 table runners.  Just the tops, not quilted yet.

Trimming 4 patches

I made this one a little while ago and just

finished it up with the patch for

the silverware and napkin.

I plan on using this one for pot luck suppers.

I picked this kit up at a quilt shop

in Beaver Bay, MN.

I finally got 4 of them finished and ready

for fall.

A dressed up Dragonfly.

I didn't like how this one turned out

and Wendy thought that maybe a satin stitch

in a fun colour might help it.

I think it did. Now you can see

the green dragonfly.
